Nornickel to become general partner of Trans-Baikal International Film Festival

According to the company’s representative, support for the film festival complies with Nornickel’s values

CHITA, January 22. /TASS/. The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) will support the 8th Trans-Baikal International Film Festival in Chita, the press service of the Bystrinskoye Mining Company, a part of Nornickel, told TASS on Tuesday.

The film festival will take place in Chita and the Trans-Baikal Region’s districts between May 30 and June 2.

"The Norilsk Nickel Company will be the event’s general partner and will finance the Film Festival in 2019," the press service said.

According to the company’s Aide to Vice President Sergei Samoilov, support for the film festival complies with Nornickel’s values. "It is a landmark cultural event for the Trans-Baikal Region," he said. "We consider it promising and see its development - it educates, opens new names, and one of its aims is formation of the regional movie industry and authors."

Chita has been hosting annual Trans-Baikal International Film Festivals since 2011. In 2017, the Norilsk Nickel Company became the festival’s general sponsor for the first time. From 2018, the festival’s geography spread to the region’s Gazimuro-Zavodsky district, where the company’s asset, the Bystrinsky Mining plant, is located.

In 2018, the film festival worked from May 31 to June 3 in Chita, the region’s eleven districts, as well as in China’s bordering Manchuria. The festival featured about 60 guests - Russian and foreign actors and the movie industry’s representatives - and more than 30,000 attendees.
