Unmanned Kamaz vehicles to be tested on public roads this year

In 2015, Kamaz created the first Russian prototype unmanned vehicle on the basis of Kamaz-5350 truck

MOSCOW, January 10. /TASS/. Unmanned vehicles of Kamaz will be tested for the first time on public roads in Naberezhnye Chelny in 2019, press service of Rostec state corporation told TASS on Thursday.

"Starting from 2019, we plan to start the pilot operation of Kamaz autonomous vehicles on public roads in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny and in closed areas," Rostec said.

The state corporation also noted that during the tests professional test drivers will be present in the cars, who will take control if an emergency situation occurs.

In 2015, Kamaz created the first Russian prototype unmanned vehicle on the basis of Kamaz-5350 truck. The vehicle can drive independently on the given routes without the help of the driver. At the same time, the artificial intelligence system of the truck can differentiate between road markings, signs, and other road users, including pedestrians.
