Chinese leader calls on countries to jointly counter trade protectionism

Xi Jinping believes that all countries should adhere to the policy of openness

SHANGHAI, November 5. /TASS/. The international community should pool efforts to counter trade protectionism and boost open cooperation, Chinese leader Xi Jinping said at the opening ceremony of the first China International Import Expo in the city of Shanghai on Monday.

"The global economy is going through deep changes. Protectionism and unilateral approach is lifting up its head. New obstacles preventing economic globalization are emerging. Multilateralism and the free trade system are under attack, numerous factors of instability and uncertainty persist, risks and challenges are growing," the Chinese leader said.

According to Xi Jinping, with that said, the international community needs to make joint efforts to counter these challenges. "All countries should pursue the policy of openness and resolutely oppose protectionism and unilateral approaches, increase openness both at bilateral and multilateral levels, and promote global economic integration in order to build an open global economy," Xi Jinping said.
