Rusal can shut down several more plants due to sanctions — sources

Rusal, the second largest aluminum producer across the globe, can mothball several more plant facilities if US sanctions are not lifted shortly

MOSCOW, August 8. /TASS/. Rusal, the second largest aluminum producer across the globe, can mothball several more plant facilities if US sanctions are not lifted shortly, sources in the industry told TASS on Wednesday.

"In such situation [when sanctions are kept - TASS], Rusal will have to mothball not merely production facilities of the Nadvoitsky Aluminum Plant making products for the US, only but also facilities of plants making products for other overseas market," a source close to the company said.

"If sanctions are not lifted in near future, then contracts will end and all the company’s products intended for foreign consumers will go to storages against since October 1, although a portion of aluminum not sold in April is still there," he said.

An employee from the aluminum division of the company confirmed this information. "Production of alloys and added-value items for foreign consumers can be halted from September already in the current situation," he added.
