Russian state arms seller's plant in Venezuela to achieve capacity operation in 2018

Venezuela’s vice-president noted progress in political and defense cooperation between the two countries

SOCHI, November 24. /TASS/. A Kalashnikov plant in Venezuela will achieve capacity operation in 2018, Venezuela’s Vice-President for Economics and Finance, Castro Soteldo, told the media on Friday.

"As far as military cooperation is concerned, we have made great progress. One of the main joint projects our countries share is building a plant for manufacturing the world-famous Kalashnikov assault rifle. We hope that next year this plant will achieve capacity operation," said Soteldo, who co-chairs the joint inter-government commission.

Soteldo noted progress in political and defense cooperation between the two countries.

He pointed out that the commission discussed not only military aspects, but ways of restructuring Venezuela’s economy.

"I would say that the successes we achieved largely stem from our synergy. We understand and complement each other," he said.

Soteldo thanked Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin for support provided.
