Missing tourists found safe and sound in Kamchatka

Rescuers managed to establish with them satellite phone communication

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, March 12 (Itar-Tass) – The Mi-8 helicopter has found the snowmobile tourists that went missing in Kamchatka alive and well near the Chayevoi pass in the area of the Nalychevo Nature Park. Rescuers managed to establish with them satellite phone communication. The people need no help, spokesperson for the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry’s (EMERCOM) main department for the Kamchatka Territory Yulia Ananyeva told Itar-Tass.

On March 9, the three travellers headed on snowmobiles to the Dzendzur tourist base in the area of the Zhupanova River 118 kilometres from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. They had the necessary supply of fuel, food, as well as satellite communication devices.

During the trip the tourists were regularly getting in touch by satellite phones and on March 10 were to return to the Kamchatka regional centre, but they did not.

The territorial law enforcement agencies earlier informed that Director of the Kamchatnefteprodukt company Alexei Skidan is among the missing. This company is the largest supplier of motor fuel to Kamchatka.
