ST. PETERSBURG, March 24 (Itar-Tass) — About 1,000 people attended an opposition march in St. Petersburg on Saturday, March 24, the city and regional interior department told Itar-Tass.

Police detained four people during the march. “According to the march organisers, police detained four people who were not among the participants. They were taken to the local police station to be charged with administrative offences,” a police officer said.

“No public order violations occurred,” he said.

The event brought together different opposition forces from Yablokoo, which is representative in the city parliament, to the so-called non-systemic opposition, including The Other Russia, nationalists and gay activists.

The march and rally were attended by only a part of the city’s opposition as a similar event is scheduled for Sunday, March 25. Its organisers – the United Civil Front and some nationalist movements – will also rally for fair elections.
