KRASNOYARSK, December 19 (Itar-Tass) —— The reconstructing Sayanao-Shushenskaya hydropower plant has generated more than 2.8 million megawatt-hours since the accident in 2009.
The fifth power unit, which was commissioned at the HPP on Monday, increased its generating capacity to 3.2 gigawatts, or a half of the hydropower plan’s designated capacity.
While pushing the start-up button at the fifth power unit, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin demanded to cut the manufacturer’s price by 12 percent for the electricity consumers of the RUSAL company in 2012.
In the words of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, the commissioning of new facilities at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP and further development of the hydropower generating industry will make it possible to decrease electricity cost for Siberian consumers.
“Such a power plant of the kind, as the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, while operating in the normal parameters, will make it possible to save at least 20 billion cubic metres of gas, as compared to the thermal power generation,” he said.
“The saved gas may be sold. The work of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP and the start-up of new facilities will be aimed at the decline of the electricity cost in general,” said Sechin, who is in charge of the Russian electricity generation sphere.
