Tu-134 plane catches fire on runway in Novy Urengoi

There were 67 passengers and seven crewmembers onboard, all of them were evacuated

YEKATERINBURG, October 14 (Itar-Tass) — A Tu-134 airplane of the Yamal airlines caught on fire while taking up speed at a runway in the airport of the town of Novy Urengoi in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, a spokesman for the Urals regional emergencies centre told Itar-Tass on Friday.

According to the spokesman, the accident was reported at 11:58 a.m. local time (09:58 a.m. Moscow time).

“The airplane had to stop. There were 67 passengers and seven crewmembers onboard. All of them were evacuated. NO one was hurt,” the spokesman said.

An investigation is underway.
