German ministry confirms military deal with Russia annulled
However, the sanctions do not affect the existing deals
BERLIN, August 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Germany stopped realization of combat training centre deal between German weapon concern Rheinmetall AG and Russian army, German economics ministry confirmed on Monday.
The permit issued by the previous government had been revoked, said the ministry’s spokesperson. The measure followed European Union’s sectoral sanctions on Russia adopted amid the events in Ukraine.
However, the sanctions do not affect the existing deals. The spokesperson confirmed that the German government thus went beyond the EU sanctions.
The centre in the Russian settlement of Mulino was expected to train up to 30,000 servicemen a year. The deal was estimated at 120 million euros. In March, the German government announced freeze of cooperation on this project amid the events in Ukraine.
In theory, the concern can file a new application for participation in the centre construction if needed, a source in the government told ITAR-TASS.
