Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine should be held in autumn — presidential envoy

The president had suggested the national constitution be amended with provisions guaranteeing broader authority to regions and decentralization

KIEV, June 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine should take place in the autumn, Irina Gerashchenko, the Ukrainian president’s envoy for peace settlement in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and a members of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament), said on Thursday.

“President Petro Poroshenko hopes that parliamentary elections will be held this autumn,” she said, adding that the president had suggested the national constitution be amended with provisions “guaranteeing broader authority to regions and decentralization, including early elections to local and national legislatures” as part of peace settlement plan.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian parliament registered resolutions on the Rada self-dissolution.
