Former Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra detained by military
Earlier on Friday, Yingluck was summoned to the Bangkok Army Claub along with other politicians for undisclosed reasons
LONDON, May 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Thailand’s former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been detained in Bangkok, Reuters reported.
“We have detained Yingluck, her sister and brother-in-law,” Reuters quoted a senior military officer as saying.
Earlier, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party Abhisit Vejjajiva was released. He had been detained right after the Thai military announced a state coup.
On May 23, 114 politicians were summoned to the National Peace and Order Maintaining Council that was established after the military seized the power in the country On May 22. Among the people summoned to the Council were politicians from the deposed government, their supporters and opposition leaders. The reason for summoning to the Bangkok Army Club was not disclosed.
