DOHA, May 17. /TASS/. The UAE defense ministry has begun a probe into the drone attack on an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region.

"Today, on May 17, 2026, UAE air defense systems detected three drones entering the country’s airspace from the western border. Two of them were successfully intercepted while th third one hit an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah NPP in Al Dhafra," the ministry said, adding that an investigation is underway to identify the "source of the attacks."

Abu Dhabi authorities reported earlier in the day that a fire broke out following a drone strike on a generator near the Barakah NPP. No injuries were reported and there was no impact on radiological safety levels, with the plant’s power units continuing to operate routinely, they said.
