In line with the charter, Donald Trump will become the institution’s first chairman, and will personally decide on inviting new members

NEW YORK, January 19. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump plans to sign the full constitution and remit of the Board of Peace on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on January 22, Bloomberg reported citing sources.

According to the report, Trump wants the invited countries to sign the document on Thursday to officially launch the initiative.

In line with the charter, Trump will become the institution’s first chairman, and will personally decide on inviting new members.

The US administration wants countries to pay $1 billion on the first year of their membership to become the board’s permanent member.

According to Bloomberg, this condition has "blindsided world leaders and left many bewildered." Initially, the board was intended to oversee the post-conflict reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, but the text of its founding document is pointing to broader ambitions, including of becoming a rival or replacement of the UN.

Some of those invited also expressed concern about Trump’s role in the organization, who, as the chairman, will be granted unilateral control over the new organization’s funds.

The board’s executive committee already includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters earlier in the day that President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to join the Board of Peace on Gaza, and this opportunity is being examined.
