South Korea intends to reconsider arms supplies to Ukraine
Earlier, the Republic of Korea provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine and supplied non-lethal military items, but not weapons
SEOUL, June 20. /TASS/. The Republic of Korea intends to reconsider the issue of direct arms supplies to Ukraine, the Yonhap news agency has quoted a presidential official as saying.
Chang accused Russia and North Korea of disregarding "international responsibilities and norms" and called as a "fallacious and irrational" the argument military cooperation by Russia and North Korea was a countermeasure to a "hypothetical scenario of a preemptive attack."
The South Korean official compared the special military operation to the Korean War.
"Any cooperation that directly or indirectly aids North Korea's military enhancement is a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions," he argued. Russia's assistance to the DPRK threatens the security of the Republic of Korea, he claimed.
The day before, Russia and the DPRK signed a treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership, which implies the provision of military assistance in case of war as a result of aggression against one of the parties.
Earlier, the Republic of Korea provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine and supplied military items of a non-lethal nature, but not weapons. On May 9, the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol said that his country adhered to the principle of not providing lethal weapons to Ukraine.
