White House confirms delivering to Kiev ATACMS missiles with range of 165 km
"We believe this will provide a significant boost to Ukraine’s battlefield capabilities without risking our military readiness," the spokesperson added
WASHINGTON, October 17. /TASS/. The US administration has delivered to Ukraine ATACMS tactical missiles with a range of up to 165 km, the White House’s National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The United States recently provided Ukraine with a type of ATACMS capable of ranging out to 165 km," she said.
"We believe this will provide a significant boost to Ukraine’s battlefield capabilities without risking our military readiness," the spokesperson added.
She did not disclose the number of missiles delivered and the exact date of the handover.
Earlier on Tuesday, Vladimir Rogov, leader of the We Are Together With Russia movement, said, without indicating sources, that overnight on Tuesday, during an attack on the city of Berdyansk in the Zaporozhye Region, Ukrainian troops used US-made ATACMS missiles with cluster warheads for the first time. Besides, two civilians have been injured in a missile strike on Skadovsk in the Kherson Region, according to the region’s governor, Vladimir Saldo. Apparently, the Ukrainian forces used US-made ATACMS missiles, the governor's press service has told TASS.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press news agency reported earlier that the United States has handed over less than a dozen of ATACMS missiles so far. Citing unnamed officials, the agency reported that the handover took place one of these days.
Kiev’s use of ATACMS missiles was earlier confirmed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
