Kosovo postpones ban on Serbian documents until September 1 — Cabinet
The leadership of the unrecognized region expects the establishment of "complete freedom of movement in the north of Kosovo"
BELGRADE, August 1. /TASS/. Authorities of unrecognized Kosovo postpone the procedure of introducing the ban on Serbian documents until September 1.
"The government of Kosovo undertakes from Monday, August 1, 2022, to postpone implementation of two decisions dated June 29, 2022 until September 1, 2022, when all barricades will be removed and full freedom [of movement] in Northern Kosovo will be established," authorities said.
The situation in Kosovo and Metohija deteriorated dramatically on Sunday evening after Kosovo’s police had closed the checkpoint at the border with Serbia. In response, Serbs in the north of Kosovo took to the streets and blocked key highways. Police and the Kosovo Force (KFOR), a NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo, were pulled to the bridge across the Ibar River, which links Kosovska Mitrovica’s northern and southern parts.
According to results of international efforts, including the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Kosovo postponed the procedure of banning Serbian documents until September 1.
