Biden signs order on introducing sanctions against Russia
These are the first anti-Russian restrictions under the administration of President Joe Biden
MOSCOW, April 15./TASS/. The US has imposed new sanctions against Russia, the first under the administration of President Joe Biden. This happens just two days after the US president spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and proposed a meeting.
As the reason Washington mentioned, in particular, allegations that Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service is responsible for a cyberattack on SolarWinds, as well as Russia’s alleged meddling in the US elections. Moscow has repeatedly denied these accusations. Besides, individuals and legal entities associated with Crimea were put on the new list of sanctions.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Moscow condemned Washington's sanctions plans and would respond to them on the principle of reciprocity in order to best ensure its interests.
Sanctions slapped on Russia
Ten diplomats from the Russian Embassy in Washington are to leave the US. According to the US side, there are representatives of the Russian intelligence services among them.
