Ukraine’s transport plane crashes near Lvov killing five
There were seven crew members onboard the plane and one person accompanying the cargo
KIEV, October 4. /TASS/. The death toll after the Antonov An-12 transport plane of Ukraine Air Alliance airline crashed near Lvov on Friday has soared to five, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladislav Krikliy said.
"Five people have been killed," Krikliy wrote on his Facebook page, reporting about the crash.
The plane, which was en route from Spain’s Vigo to Lvov in western Ukraine, crash-landed in the Sokolniki village in the Lvov Region, some 1.5 km from the runway.
There were seven crew members onboard the plane and one person accompanying the cargo.
Deputy Transport Minister Yuri Lavrenyuk told 112 Ukraine TV channel that two causes of the crash were being considered - either the lack of fuel or a pilot error, noting that heavy fog had been reported in the area.
The An-12 plane, built 51 years ago, had been used in military and transport aviation in 1968-1995, and then by civil airlines.
