MOSCOW, July 4. /TASS/. King Abdullah II of Jordan believes that relations with Russia are developing smoothly and contribute to peace in the Middle East, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said at a meeting with Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday.
"I would like to convey warm greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin from Jordan’s king. The king notes that our relations are developing smoothly, they are based, first and foremost, on sincerity, friendship and openness," the Jordanian minister noted. "Our bilateral relations contribute not only to promoting our interests. They also serve the cause of establishing peace in the region."
He expressed the hope that the negotiations will be constructive. "I mean, in particular, our talks and the discussion of the situation in southern Syria," he explained.
According to Safadi, the situation there "requires a political settlement and an understanding that it is necessary to save civilian lives." "I hope that today we will be able to outline some specific steps to resolve the situation in southern Syria," he went on to say. "The situation in southern Syria is very complex.
