MOSCOW, August 4. /TASS/. The Russian men's national volleyball team has decided to withdraw from the 2027 FIVB (the International Volleyball Federation) World Cup in Poland, President of the Russian Volleyball Federation (RVF) Stanislav Shevchenko said on Tuesday.

"As for the 2027 World Cup in Poland, a decision has been made to withdraw from this tournament for security reasons. We believe that there will be little sports and a lot of politics at this tournament," the RVF’s press office quoted Shevchenko as saying in a statement.

"At the same time, we continue our joint work with the International Volleyball Federation [FIVB] on the potential participation of the [Russian] women's national team in the first World Cup in the history of North America, which will be hosted by the United States and Canada in 2027," he continued.

"We expect a fair decision that will benefit the entire volleyball community and make this important tournament even more spectacular and competitive," Shevchenko added.

The FIVB said earlier in a statement that the organization was in discissions with the Canadian and US volleyball federations on the possible participation of the Russian women's national team in the World Cup. According to the FIVB, further information will be released at the due time.

On July 9, President of the Polish Volleyball Union Sebastian Swiderski said that the national sports organization could no longer obstruct Russia from taking part in the 2027 World Cup without resulting consequences.

The 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup and will be hosted by Poland for the fourth time in the competitions history on September 10-26, 2027. Italy are the two-time defending champions of the international tournament.

On July 8, the Board of Administration of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ruled to lift all previously imposed restrictions against Russia following recommendations from the International Olympic Committee. The IOC announced a decision on July 7 to provisionally lift an earlier-imposed suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and also recommended lifting restrictions on the participation of Russian athletes in all international tournaments.
