GENEVA, July 10. /TASS/. The Russian national football team held steady in 35th place in FIFA's latest world rankings, according to the list published by the world’s governing body of football on Thursday.

The Russian national football team played two international friendlies in June - on home turf against Nigeria (1-1) and away against Belarus (4-1), but made no movement on the FIFA list, staying in 35th place with 1,518.54 points.

"The last few months have seen some awe-inspiring football action, including on the international stage with FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, confederation showpieces and a number of friendly matches," FIFA’s statement reads.

"More than 200 relevant national-team encounters have been contested around the world since the last edition of the FIFA Men’s World Ranking was released, and those fixtures have made their mark on the standings," the statement continued. "There is no movement at the summit, however."

The FIFA World Rankings are still topped by Argentina (1,885.36 points), followed by Spain in 2nd place (1,867.09 points) and France in 3rd place (1,862.03 points).

"The changes start at the top end, with Croatia climbing one place to return to the top 10 at the expense of Italy (11th, down 2). For their part, Portugal (6th, up 1) and the Netherlands (7th, down 1) have swapped places, while eighth-placed Belgium have not budged but now have Germany (9th, up 1) looming ominously behind them," the statement added.

The Top-10 of football nations according to FIFA World Ranking is as follows: 1st Argentina (1,885.36 points); 2nd Spain (1,867.09); 3rd France (1,862.03); 4th England (1,813.32); 5th Brazil (1,777.69); 6th Portugal (1,770.53); 7th the Netherlands (1,758.18); 8th Belgium (1,736.38); 9th Germany (1,716.98) and 10th Croatia (1,707.51).

Russia’s football ban

The world’s governing football body, FIFA, announced on February 28, 2022, that the Russian national team and all professional clubs representing the country were barred from participating in FIFA tournaments.

In turn, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) made a similar decision regarding the Russian national football team’s participation in UEFA tournaments.

Both FIFA and UEFA cited Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine as grounds for their respective bans on Russian teams’ participation in competitions.
