Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Region introduces full isolation regime
The Yamalo-Nenetsk Region is the only region in the Urals Federal District with zero coronavirus cases
MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. Full self-isolation regime will be in place in the Yamalo-Nenetsk Region, which is the only region in the Urals Federal District with zero coronavirus cases, on April 1-5, the regional government announced Tuesday.
On March 29, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov extended the heightened readiness regime. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that their decisions are a logical continuation of restrictive measures, proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and called on other regions to introduce similar measures.
"The region is going on lockdown until April 5. Residents are prohibited from leaving their homes unless there is an imminent threat to life or if they need to see a doctor for a medical emergency," the statement reads.
According to the government’s press service, people are also allowed to shop at the nearest store, walk their pets and dispose of waste within 100 meters of home.
"We would like everyone to understand that it is not a recommendation but a responsibility that everyone has to take seriously. Human lives depend on these measures," said Deputy Governor Tatyana Buchkova, who heads the regional center for the prevention of the coronavirus.
Earlier a lockdown was imposed for people above 60.
To date, there are 59 coronavirus cases in the Urals Federal District.
In late December 2019, Chinese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus — named COVID-19 by the WHO — have been reported in more than 160 countries, including Russia.
The WHO on March 11 declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. As of now, more than 760,000 people have been infected around the world and over 37,000 have died
