MOSCOW, July 15./ITAR-TASS/. Death toll rises to 15 in Moscow metro incident, Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov said.

“According to latest data, fifteen people have. The bodies of three people have not been yet lifted. We’ll work for three or four hours,” Biryukov said. Earlier, Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov confirmed the death of 12 people.

“At 8:39 Moscow time Moscow’s metro train made a hard brake stop as a result of loss of voltage in the conduct rail that caused derailment of three cars. The hard braking of the train between the Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bulvar stations was caused by power outage and false alarm. Three metro train cars derailed,” chief of the National Crisis Management Centre Viktor Yatsutsenko said on Tuesday.

“According to preliminary data, 161 people were injured. A total of 118 people were taken to hospital. Unfortunately, 12 people died,” he said.

At least 50 of those hospitalized are in a grave condition, Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov said. 

“Around one hundred ambulances are working at the incident site, four emergency helicopters are airlifting the injured people to hospitals. The injured were taken to 14 Moscow hospitals, including city hospitals number 67 and 71 and Sklifosovsky First Aid Clinic,” the press service of the Health Ministry reported.

Families of people killed in the Moscow metro accident will be paid 1.5 million rubles ($43.6 thousand), Vice-Mayor Pyotr Biryukov has said. "A total of 1.5 million rubles ($43.6 thousand) will be paid to families of the victims. One million rubles ($29 thousand) will be rendered to injured people," Biryukov said on Tuesday.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin visited the site and later he visited the hospital.
