Russia reports over 13,600 new coronavirus cases, highest rate since start of pandemic

Russia’s total case tally reached 1,298,718

MOSCOW, October 11. /TASS/. Russia recorded 13,634 coronavirus cases in the past day, the highest rate since the start of pandemic, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Sunday.

The coronavirus growth rate rose to 1.1% from 1% over the past two days. Russia’s total case tally reached 1,298,718.

The lowest growth rates in the past 24 hours were registered in the Chechen Republic (0.3%), the Chuvash Republic (0.4%), in the Moscow and Tula Regions, the Republics of Tuva, Tatarstan, Bashkiria and the Chukotka Autonomous Region (0.5%).

Moscow confirmed 4,501 new COVID-19 cases, registering a 1.4% growth. St. Petersburg recorded 528 cases, and the total case tally in Russia’s second largest city rose 1.2%. Some new 419 cases were recorded in the Moscow Region, 272 in the Rostov Region, 262 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 246 in the Arkhangelsk Region and 209 in the Sverdlovsk Region.

Currently, 255,679 people are undergoing treatment in Russia.

Russia’s coronavirus recoveries

Some 4,240 patients recovered from the coronavirus in Russia in the past day, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,020,442, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Sunday.

According to the crisis center, the total number of recoveries dropped to 78.5% of all those infected. On Saturday, this figure exceeded 79%.

Over the past day, 244 patients were discharged in the Moscow Region, 240 in the Rostov Region, 190 in the Voronezh Region, 145 in the Sverdlovsk Region and 102 in Dagestan.

Russia’s coronavirus fatalities climbed by 149 in the past day versus 191 a day earlier. Since the start of the pandemic, 22,597 people have died.

The average mortality rate for the first time since September 14 dropped to 1.74%, according to the crisis center.

In the past day nine patients died in the Rostov Region, seven in the Omsk Region, six in the Moscow Region, five in the Ulyanovsk and Sverdlovsk Regions.

The total death toll in the country as of October 10 was corrected to 22,448 instead of 22,454 after a technical error was found.
