Dmitry Peskov says that it is bad when there is no fuel for medicine delivery, patient transportation

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Cuba is now facing problems due to the US blockade, which is wrong, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS.

"They are not facing problems because of fuel. They are facing problems because of the US. I think it is wrong when one country strangles another," he said, commenting on the situation with the jet fuel shortage on the island.

The spokesman pointed out that "it is very bad when there is no fuel to deliver medicine or transport the sick by air."

Fuel situation in Cuba

The situation with fuel in Havana deteriorated after the US January 3 military operation in Venezuela to capture President Nicolas Maduro. The country was one of the main exporters of fuel to Cuba. On January 29, the US unveiled an executive order, according to which Washington may sanction countries providing Cuba with fuel. This document also formally announced a state of emergency due to an alleged threat from Cuba.

The island state’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said the government strongly condemns the US measures that threaten Cuba with "a total blockade of fuel supplies" and "violate all principles of international trade," creating "extreme conditions" for the Cuban people.

Washington said it was working with Havana authorities regarding the situation in Cuba in light of the US energy blockade and noted that the two sides were close to reaching an agreement.
