Russia stays out of Georgia's affairs unlike West — Foreign Ministry
Russia primarily focuses on developing trade, economic, and humanitarian ties with this country, with whose people we share a common history, culture, and close personal connections, Maria Zakharova said at a briefing
MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. Russia firmly rejects accusations of interference in Georgia's affairs coming from the Georgian opposition; this is what the West does, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
"These accusations are entirely unfounded, and we firmly reject them," the diplomat stated in response to the allegations against Russia. "I would like to remind those making such claims that we have no diplomatic relations with Georgia. Russia primarily focuses on developing trade, economic, and humanitarian ties with this country," Zakharova added.
"Meanwhile, we do not interfere in other countries' domestic affairs; that is what the West does," Zakharova emphasized.
The West, she said, was literally pressuring Georgian voters and forcing them to vote "as they should" in the parliamentary elections. "Despite enormous pressure, the Georgian people spoke out in favor of stability and traditional values," the diplomat pointed out. When talking about Russia's interference, "if the shoe fits, the West should wear it," she added.
"They are doing this to cover up their own Western crimes," the diplomat explained.
Meanwhile, Zakharova expressed her conviction that the Georgian people will not give in to provocations and will themselves sort out who actually poses a real threat to the country.
