UNSC fails to adopt Russia’s draft resolution on preventing arms race in outer space

UNITED NATIONS, May 20. /TASS/. The United Nations Security Council has failed to adopt a Russia-initiated draft resolution on preventing an arms race in outer space, a TASS correspondent reported.
Seven out of 15 UN Security Council members, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the resolution, while seven voted against and Switzerland abstained.
A resolution is adopted when supported by nine Security Council members and vetoed by neither of the permanent members.
The West has shown its true colors by voting down the Russia-initiated UN Security Council draft resolution on preventing an arms race in outer space, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.
"It is deplorable that these Western members of the Security Council today did not let it pass a well-balanced and so necessary resolution in favor of using outer space solely for peaceful purposes. This way they have ultimately thrown off their disguises, have exposed themselves before us as they really are," he said.
