Zakharova slams as 'groundless speculations' West’s accusations of Russian hacker attacks
Maria Zakharova pointed out to the dubious status of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who had to stand the country’s presidential election in March
MOSCOW, May 8. /TASS/. Recent accusations regarding Russia’s alleged cyberattacks on vital infrastructure in Germany and the Czech Republic are groundless speculation, likely related to the upcoming presidential election in the United States, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
"This is groundless speculation," the diplomat said. "They are just turning up the heat. Perhaps this is being done in anticipation of the US presidential election."
Zakharova pointed the dubious status of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Ukraine was supposed to hold its presidential election in March, but Zelensky prevented it.
The Ukrainian administration should think about its own presidential legitimacy before coming up with such "‘properly-paid by the West’ assessments," she said.
"Official representatives from the diplomatic ministry did not rule out that the issue of hacker attacks ‘could be being orchestrated from inside the United States, and perhaps this chorus, this polyphony of voices from NATO and EU countries’ were also beneficial to them in order to spin the anti-Russian card," she continued.
"There is no way to verify this today," she continued. "They did not provide any data to confirm their words."
"We have heard earlier such ungrounded statements from Germany, Great Britain and the Czech Republic," she added.
