According to Andrey Chernovol, Russia has made lists for evacuation from Sudan and will also evacuate citizens of CIS countries

MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. None of the diplomatic missions has been able to evacuate from Sudan, Russian Ambassador to Sudan Andrey Chernovol told TASS on Saturday.

"Other countries announce it (their readiness to evacuate from Sudan - TASS). Nevertheless, as far as I know, not a single mission has managed to evacuate their staff members from Khartoum, and in general, from Sudan. Some of them have gone as far as Port Sudan, but we do not yet have such an opportunity," he said.

Chernovol added that Russia has made lists for evacuation from Sudan and will also evacuate citizens of CIS countries. "We have draft lists for evacuation. Should such evacuations take place, we, as usual, will be evacuating citizens of CIS countries along with our citizens, as their lists are also being made," he said.

Chernovol also noted that Russia is ready to evacuate Russian nationals from Sudan, but it is still impossible. "It is not yet possible to talk about crossing the engagement lines between the parties. And without it, any talk of evacuation makes no sense," he said.

"However, we are ready for evacuation. As soon as such a chance turns up, we will carry that out unless the situation in the Sudanese capital changes drastically for the better before that," Chernovol stressed.

On Saturday, a Sudanese army spokesman said quoted by Al-Hadath TV channel that the UK, China, the US and France were evacuating their citizens from Khartoum by military transport aircraft belonging to their national Air Forces. The spokesman pointed out that Saudi nationals were evacuated by land from the Sudanese capital to Port Sudan, located on the Red Sea coast, on Saturday. According to him, they will be airlifted home from there. In addition, Jordan decided to evacuate its nationals.

The situation in Sudan escalated after disagreements between Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who also chairs Sudan’s Sovereign Council, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (known as Hemedti), his deputy in that council and the chief of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces. On April 15, clashes erupted between the two forces near the Merowe military base and in the capital of Khartoum. According to the latest figures from the health ministry, more than 600 people have been killed in the hostilities. The Sudan doctors’ committee reported that almost 200 civilians have been killed, with more than 1,000 injured and another 3,300 forced to flee their homes.
