MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. The implementation of the trilateral agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh was the focus of a telephone conversation between Russian and Armenian Foreign Ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Ararat Mirzoyan, the Russian foreign ministry said on Friday.

"Special attention was focused on the problems of regional stability and security, first of all, on the implementation of the trilateral agreements of the Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian leaders of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021," it said.

The sides also stressed the necessity of finding solutions to humanitarian problems in Nagorno-Karabakh. "The ministers shared the opinion that the unblocking of transport and economic communications in the South Caucasus, the promotion of trust-building measures and the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the neighboring countries will help further normalize the situation in the region," the ministry emphasized. "The sides stressed the importance of finding solutions to the pressing humanitarian problems, such as, first of all, releasing detainees, sharing minefield maps and preserving cultural heritage sites."

Apart from that, the two top diplomats discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, including in the context of upcoming high-level contacts. "The ministers agreed to expand inter-ministerial ties to organize the 20th session of the intergovernmental economic cooperation commission and the 8th interregional forum before the yearend," the ministry added.

Lavrov and Mirzoyan also discussed bilateral cooperation within international formats and integration associations. "The minister discussed cooperation within common integration associations, including in the context of Armenia’s presidency in the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization - TASS), and coordination of steps within international formats, such as the United Nations and the OSCE," the ministry said. "The Russian side expressed satisfaction with the results of the OSCE Minsk Group-mediated meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York."

It was also reported that Russian and Armenian Foreign Ministers stressed the necessity of finding solutions to humanitarian problems in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"The sides stressed the importance of finding solutions to the pressing humanitarian problems, such as, first of all, releasing detainees, sharing mine field maps and preserving cultural heritage sites," it said.

Renewed clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted on September 27, 2020, with intense battles raging in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. On November 9, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on a complete ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. Under the document, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides stopped at the positions that they had held and Russian peacekeepers were deployed along the engagement line in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor that connects Armenia with the enclave to exercise control of the ceasefire observance. Apart from that, a number of districts came over to Baku’s control.
