GORKI, February 1. /TASS/. A breakthrough in the pharmaceutical and other areas can be one of the outcomes of combating COVID-19, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev told the country’s mass media in an interview.

"I am totally convinced that as a result of the collective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, humanity will have many new drugs. I even assume that there will be a breakthrough in some direction <...>," Medvedev said.

He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic stepped up work in a number of fields. In this regard, Medvedev believes, the breakthrough can happen not only in the pharmaceutical sector but also in the field of biotechnology, cyber security and a large number of other areas.
