Putin, Erdogan discuss cooperation in development of anti-coronavirus vaccines

MOSCOW, May 18. /TASS/. Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan have stressed the importance of cooperation to develop vaccines against the novel coronavirus and anti-coronavirus therapies, the Kremlin press service said on Monday after their telephone conversation.

"The sides discussed in detail problems of combating the coronavirus pandemic. The presidents stressed the importance of further cooperation between the two countries' relevant agencies to develop vaccines and therapies to treat the infection," it said.

Putin thanked the Turkish partners for collaboration in repatriation of Russian nationals and for humanitarian assistance to a number of Russian regions.

The presidents also hashed over current aspects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and agreed to continue regular dialogue at various levels.

Escalation in Libya

Russian and Turkish Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have expressed concern over escalation of the situation in Libya, the Kremlin press service reported.

"The Russian and Turkish presidents voiced concern over the escalation of hostilities in Libya," it said. "The presidents stressed the necessity of the soonest reinstatement of the indefinite ceasefire and resumption of the intra-Libyan dialogue on the basis of the resolutions of the January 2020 international conference in Berlin that were approved by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2510."

Agreements on Syria’s Idlib

The two presidents called for invigoration of efforts to implement the Russian-Turkish agreements on Syria’s Idlib, the Kremlin press service said on Monday following the telephone conversation.

"The sides expressed mutual commitment to more active joint efforts to implement the Russian-Turkish agreements on the Idlib de-escalation zone, including the additional protocol to the Sochi Memorandum of September 17, 2018 that was signed in Moscow on March 5, 2020," it said.
