Kremlin aide: Turkey to get Russian-made S-400 air defense systems in July
The Kremlin aide did not rule out that Putin might discuss this contract at a meeting with Erdogan that would take place on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka
MOSCOW, June 26. /TASS/. Turkey will receive Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missile systems in July, Kremlin Aide Yuri Ushakov said on Wednesday.
"The deliveries will take place in July," the Russian presidential aide said.
"The picture [about this contract] is about clear both for us and Turks," he added.
The Kremlin aide did not rule out that Russian President Vladimir Putin might discuss this contract at a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that would take place on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka on June 29.
"Russia highly values the Turkish leadership’s determination to fulfil this contract [on S-400 deliveries], despite the unprecedented pressure by the United States, which is demanding that it must be revised," the Kremlin aide said.
As the Russian presidential aide said, the negotiations of the two leaders would focus on the situation in Syria.
The S-400 ‘Triumf’ is the most advanced long-range air defense missile system that went into service in Russia in 2007. It is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, including medium-range missiles, and can also be used against ground installations. The S-400 can engage targets at a distance of 400 km and at an altitude of up to 30 km.
