Ukrainian forces shelled the St. Nicolas and Basil Monastery of Dormition
DONETSK, September 30. /TASS/. Two people were injured in a Ukrainian strike on the St. Nicolas and Basil Monastery of Dormition in the DPR settlement of Nikolskoye, regional emergency services told TASS.
"Ukrainian forces shelled the St. Nicolas and Basil Monastery of Dormition in the settlement of Nikolskoye near Volnovakha. A monk - achmandrite Laurentius - and a churchgoer were injured," the source said.
Monastery infrastructure was also damaged. The victims were hospitalized in Volnovakha. According to emergency agencies, the enemy used cluster munitions.
According to the monastery abbess Anna Morozova, there are about 45 monks currently living on its territory.
The monastery is located near Ugledar, where fighting is underway. Previously, Volnovakha District administration told TASS that Ukrainian forces shell the monastery repeatedly. According to the Russian Orthodox Church, these strikes caused injuries to employees and residents of the monastery, with 80% of buildings either damaged or destroyed. Meanwhile, several dozen monks still live there.
