EU institutions never discussed Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT — source
Russian Central Bank First Deputy Governor said earlier the regulator mulled different options of information transmission among banks, if Russia was disconnected from SWIFT
BRUSSELS, February 11. /TASS/. EU institutions never discussed the issue of Russia’s disconnection from the SWIFT international bank message system, a European source said at a briefing on Wednesday ahead of an extraordinary EU summit on February 12.
The EU summit is expected to discuss the Ukraine crisis.
"This issue was never considered by EU institutions and I would not speculate on this topic," the European diplomat said.
Russian Central Bank First Deputy Governor Kseniya Yudayeva said earlier the regulator mulled different options of information transmission among banks, if Russia was disconnected from the SWIFT international financial message system.
Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT will make payment confirmation less comfortable but this scenario is hardly probable, Yudayeva said.
"Nevertheless, this system can quite be substituted with other message transmission channels," she said.
