Revenue of Russian theaters rises 18% to $819.66 mln in 2025

According to a report by RBC, attendance at theater events rose by 3.5% to 44.3 mln people

MOSCOW, May 19. /TASS/. Revenue generated by Russian theaters from performances and other events increased by 18.2% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching 59.4 bln rubles ($819.66 mln), RBC reported, citing a report by the Russian Culture Ministry.

According to the publication, attendance at theater events rose by 3.5% to 44.3 mln people. The total number of events increased from 202,400 to 208,300.

Revenue from international tours surged by 74.2% to 672.3 mln rubles ($9.28 mln). Attendance at such events grew from 72,500 to 85,600 people, while the number of touring performances increased from 501 to 614.

According to Culture Ministry statistics, theaters’ total expenditures rose by 14.3% to 194.4 bln rubles ($2.68 bln). Spending on capital repairs and restoration projects saw the sharpest increase, rising nearly 40% to 8.1 bln rubles ($111.77 mln). Expenditures on new productions amounted to 9.6 bln rubles ($132.47 mln), compared to 8.6 bln rubles ($118.67 mln) a year earlier.
