Lufthansa Group to continue flights over Belarus
Airplanes of the Austrian air carrier will follow the usual route
VIENNA, May 24. /TASS/. Lufthansa Group authorized its air carriers to fly via the Belarusian airspace, Austrian Airlines, a subsidiary of the German holding, told TASS on Monday.
"Lufthansa made a decision that it is possible to fly via the airspace. This applies to all air carriers of Lufthansa Group. Our flight to Moscow was en route before this decision and therefore it bypassed that airspace. The return flight will be normal in the airspace. This will cover all Lufthansa’s airlines," a spokesperson of Austrian Airlines said in response to the request to comment on deviation of the Austrian flight from Vienna to Moscow from the Belarusian airspace.
Airplanes of the Austrian air carrier will follow the usual route after that, the spokesperson noted. "Lufthansa Group, our security service monitor the situation. If any changes take place, then appropriate measures will be taken," she added.
Reports of a terror attack at a Lufthansa plane have not been confirmed and it has left from Minsk to Frankfurt, the Minsk Airport administration said in its Telegram Channel Monday. "Currently, all necessary measures on searching passengers, luggage and the airplane are complete. The terror attack warning received earlier has not been confirmed," the airport said.
"The Lufthansa plane took off for Frankfurt. The actual takeoff time was 16:22," the statement says.
Earlier, the airport announced receiving an anonymous email about a planned terror attack on Lufthansa flight LH1487. The boarding was suspended, and the airplane was searched once again.
On May 23, a Vilnius-bound Ryanair flight that took off from Athens was forced to make an emergency landing at Minsk International Airport on Sunday after a reported bomb threat. The plane landed safely and no bomb was found on board. Roman Protasevich, one of the co-founders of the Nexta Telegram channel, which was recognized as extremist in Belarus, was among the passengers. Protasevich, currently living in Lithuania and wanted in Belarus, was detained after the airplane had landed in the Belarusian capital. The plane left Minsk and continued on to Vilnius late on Sunday.
