Kremlin expects Russian economy to return to growth in foreseeable future
The spokesman commented on a survey stating that one Russian citizen out of four negatively estimates their financial position and expects the situation to worsen in the future
MOSCOW, September 11. /TASS/. The Kremlin expects Russia’s economy to recover after the pandemic and return to growth in the foreseeable future, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday when commenting on results of a survey stating that one Russian citizen out of four negatively estimates their financial position and expects the situation to worsen in the future.
He admitted that the country "feels the global aftermath of the crisis, which is related to the pandemic and cannot but have gloomy implications for Russia." "We would prefer not to feel that but we are part of global economy," he noted.
Russia’s government is undertaking efforts "to minimize the ramifications of the crisis, though much remains to be done to emerge from the crisis and move to the growth path," he added.
"Let’s hope that [the economy] will stop deteriorating and later return to growth in the foreseeable future," Peskov concluded.
Introduction of minimum guaranteed income
The idea of introducing a minimum guaranteed income in Russia, voiced earlier by the chairman of United Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, has not yet been substantively discussed, the presidential spokesperson said.
"So far, as far as I know, there are no substantive discussions in this regard. Many points of view of people with expert knowledge and extensive experience have been under discussion. All these initiatives, as they say, are on the table, but there haven't been substantive discussions yet," said Peskov.
