Moldova expels Russian diplomats in show of solidarity with UK

Three diplomats have been told to leave Moldova within a week

CHISINAU, March 27. /TASS/. Moldova is expelling three Russian diplomats as a token of solidarity with the UK in the wake of the alleged poisoning of the former Russian military intelligence officer and British spy, Sergei Skripal.

The diplomats have been told to leave Moldova within seven days, the country’s Foreign Ministry said in a special statement.

"The decision [to expel the diplomats] was taken as a token of solidarity with the UK and proceeding from the conclusions drawn by the EU Council on March 24, 2018, which described the attack in Salisbury as a threat to collective security and international law," the ministry said.

A spokesperson for the ministry said the Russian Ambassador in Moldova, Farit Mukhametshin was notified of the decision on Tuesday.
