France’s Marine Le Pen wishes Putin success at presidential election

The leader of France's National Front said that "there are absolutely no grounds to be hostile towards Russia, as the European Union has been doing in recent years"

TASS, December 16. Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's National Front (FN), hopes current Russian President Vladimir Putin will win presidential election in 2018, she said in Prague on Saturday at a conference of European anti-migrant parties and movements.

"As for the National Front, certainly we want Vladimir Putin to win since we believe that France and Russia should improve relations," she said. "Russia is a large country and there are absolutely no grounds to exclude it from global affairs. There are absolutely no grounds to be hostile towards Russia, as the European Union has been doing in recent years."

Marine Le Pen is known for her support to Putin. She paid a visit to Moscow in March, in the run-up to France’s presidential election and met with the Russian president promising to seek anti-Russian sanctions to be lifted. Le Pen secured 21.3% in the first round, but in the run-off was defeated with 33.9% by current French President Emmanuel Macron.
