Syrian government troops backed by Russian warplanes are about to finish extermination of the last enclave of Islamic State (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) militants in eastern Syria, which has shrunk to an area of seven by 11 kilometers, the Russian defense ministry said on Tuesday.

"Syrian government troops backed by the Russian aerospace troops’ task force are finishing to exterminate the last Islamic State enclave in eastern Syria, which has shrunk to an area of seven by 11 kilometers," the ministry said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 21 that about 98% of Syria’s territory was controlled by government troops.
