Russian, German top diplomats discuss compliance with agreements on ceasefire in Donbass

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Russian and German Foreign Ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Sigmar Gabriel, discussed the implementation of the agreements reached at the "Normandy Four" ministerial meeting in Munich over the phone on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

"The two ministers discussed progress in the implementation of the agreements to defuse the internal Ukrainian crisis reached at the Normandy Four ministerial meeting in Munich on February 18 concerning the ceasefire in Donbass, withdrawal of heavy weapons and the intensification of the political settlement process," the ministry said.

"They raised a number of practical issues related to the Russian-German relations and agreed on a schedule of bilateral political contacts for the foreseeable future," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

Sigmar Gabriel expressed his condolences on the passing of Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin.

The Normandy Four foreign ministers discussed progress in the implementation of agreements on peaceful settlement in the Donbass regions at a meeting in Munich on February 18. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following the meeting that there are no tangible results in implementing the Normandy Four decisions. "The Normandy Quartet discussed compliance with the agreements reached by the Russian, French and Ukrainian presidents and the German chancellor in November in Berlin," Russia’s top diplomat said.
