Ceasefire in Syria violated 46 times in 24 hours — Russian reconciliation center

Reconciliation agreements have been inked with two populated localities in Syria’s Latakia region in the past 24 hours

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Illegal armed groups have violated ceasefire in Syria 40 times in the past 24 hours, including 20 times in the Damascus region, 18 — in the Aleppo region, three — in the Latakia region, two — in the Daraa and Hama regions each and one in the As-Suwayda region, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its daily news bulletin posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s official website on Wednesday.

"Armed groups, which have declared joining the regime of cessation of hostilities, delivered fire from homemade multiple missile launchers, mortars and small arms on the Hay al-Antari district in the city of Aleppo; in the Damascus province — on the populated localities of Jobar, Bleliye, Harasta, Bala al-Kadima, Douma, a farm in the settlement of Qusayr, high point 612 and Adawi district in the city of Damascus; in the Latakia region — on the populated localities of Ain al-Qantarah, Kinsibba and Toubal; in the As-Suwayda province — on Tell Gharbi hill," the document says.

Terrorist detachments carried out strikes from home-made multiple missile launchers, gun artillery, mortars and firearms in the Aleppo province at the settlements of Ansar, al-Hader, the districts of ‘3000,’ Benjamin, Hay al-Ansari, Hamdaniya-4, Suleiman al-Halabi, al-Masharka, ‘1070’, Salah Ed-Din, four times — on the al-Assad military academy and twice — on the area near the former military school and Castello shopping mall in the city of Aleppo, the center said.

"The populated localities of Khan al-Shih, Harasta, Jobar (twice), Bala al-Kadima, Haush Nasri (twice), Douma (twice), the sports ground and power station in the populated locality of Jobar, the Ibn al-Walid hospital came under shelling in the Damascus province," the document reads. "In the Daraa province, terrorists shelled settlements of Hamer and Karfa. In the Hama province, residential facilities and a thermal power station were shelled in the settlement of Mahardah."

Russia’s Aerospace Force and Syria’s Air Force have not been delivering strikes on opposition armed units that had announced the cessation of hostilities and reported their location to the Russian or US reconciliation centers.

Reconciliation agreements have been inked with two populated localities in Syria’s Latakia region in the past 24 hours, the Russian center said. "The number of populated localities that joined the reconciliation process has increased to 879," the bulletin says.

Talks on joining the cessation of hostilities are ongoing with the field commanders of illegal armed units in the settlement of Moadamyiet al-Shih in the Damascus region and with groups of armed opposition in the regions of Homs, Aleppo and Quneitra.

"The number of armed groups that pledged their commitments to accepting and fulfilling the conditions of the cessation of hostilities remained unchanged — 69," the center said.

Special centers keep operating in the city of Aleppo, providing hot meals and daily necessities to civilians who are leaving the districts controlled by illegal armed groups.

The Russian Defense Ministry declared the establishment of the reconciliation center on February 23. It is headquartered at the Hmeymim air base, Latakia province. The center was set up in line with agreements reached by Russia and the United States to facilitate the negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition and to organize humanitarian deliveries.
