UNITED NATIONS, October 5. /TASS/. Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres is a clear leader in the race for the post of the UN Secretary General and his candidacy will be approved on Thursday in the course of official voting at the UN Security Council, the Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, told reporters on Wednesday.

He also said he hoped members of the Security Council would vote for Guterres unanimously.
On behalf of Security Council members, Churkin wished Guterres success in performing the duties of the Secretary General in the next five years.
After official endorsement at the Security Council, Guterres’s candidature will endorsed by the UN General Assembly.
