BERLIN, September 23. /TASS/. Germany’s Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, who is the president of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDP), has advocated for holding rallies for peace at the Russian and US embassies in Berlin in the wake of new developments in Syria, the Spiegel Online news website said on Friday.

The online newspaper says that at a session of the SPD faction in the Bundestag Gabriel expressed his indignation over the attack on UN humanitarian aid convoy in Syria, saying: "I respect the demonstrations against the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) (a free-trade agreement between Canada and the European Union - eds. TASS). But where are the world community’s protests against the war in Syria? Where are the rallies?"

Gabriel said he would ask SDP Secretary General Katarina Barley to find out if the social democrats’ leaders could help in organizing such rallies for peace.

"Perhaps, we could initiate them," Spiegel Online said quoting Gabriel as saying.
