NEW DELHI, August 24. /TASS/. A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake has hit central Myanmar, the US Geological Survey reported on Wednesday.

The quake’s epicenter was located 143 kilometers west of the city of Methila (Mandalay Region).

Tremors were felt in Myanmar’s biggest city, Yangon, and over a vast territory in the region, including the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, Xinhua news agency reports. The aftershocks were also felt in a number of states in India, particularly in West Bengal and Assam, the Indian Express daily writes.
