ASTANA, July 18. /TASS/. Unidentified persons have attacked the building of the Regional Police Service of Almaty’s Almalinsky district and of the National Security Committee’s (NSC) department in Almaty, NSC said on Monday.

"The anti-terrorist center of Kazakhstan alerts about declaring the critical (‘red’) level of terrorist threat on the territory of the city of Almaty. The basis for this was the attack of unidentified persons at the building of the Regional Police Service of Almalinsky district and of the National Security Committee’s department," NSC said.

Earlier today an unidentified man opened fire at police officers near the building of the department of interior of Almaty’s Almalinsky district, tried to stop a car, and then ran down the street and continued shooting. Several areas were cordoned off by the police, gunfire is heard in the city. According to unconfirmed reports, three police officers were injured in the shoot-out.
