Expert: Assad must stay until constitutional amendments are implemented

According to the expert, the entire process of the constitutional amendments, preparations for the new development pathway in Syria cannot be implemented without Assad

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. The issue of the fate of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will not be raised at the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva for a long time, senior political adviser to the UN secretary-general’s special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura Vitaly Naumkin told the Rossiya 24 TV channel on Monday.

"This issue was not discussed at all [at the round of the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva on March 14-24]," Naumkin said. "It is difficult to say how long this will last [the issue will not be raised - TASS]. I think, however, that this will last long enough."

"Anyway, the entire process of the constitutional amendments, preparations for the new development pathway in Syria cannot be implemented without Assad. Of course, Assad must stay," Naumkin added.
