Charleroi prosecution service rules out terrorist track in murder of Tihange officer

BRUSSELS, March 26. /TASS/. The prosecution service of the Belgian city of Charleroi has ruled out a terrorist track in the murder of the Tihange nuclear plant’s security officer, responding to TASS request Saturday.

"A terrorist track is not considered in the case," a representative of the prosecution office said, declining to provide other comments pending investigation.

The Belgian federal prosecutor's office, which is in charge of the anti-terror investigation, has not commented on the issue yet.

As was reported earlier La Derniere Heure (The Latest Hour) daily wrote on Saturday with reference to local police sources that a security agent of the Tihange nuclear power station had been killed in Charleroi and his pass stolen. Earlier the newspaper said the Tihange nuclear plant was the main target of terrorist attacks.

"The plant’s security officer was killed on Thursday when he was walking his dog. The crime was totally ignored by the media though today local police sources confirmed the fact that his pass, which gives access to the station, has been stolen," the newspaper wrote.

A spate of terrorist bomb blasts hit the Belgian capital Brussels in the morning of March 22. Suicide bombers staged two explosions in the departure lounge of Zaventem airport. Another bomb went off at the Maelbeek metro station, next to the European District. A total of 31 people died and more than 300 others were injured.
